ANALYSIS: GIANNOULIS A CLEVER SIGNING
Sky Sports News’ transfer reporter Lyall Thomas, who broke the news of Giannoulis to Norwich, has had this to say about the left-back:
“Giannoulis is quite a coup for Norwich. He’s been tracked by some quite big clubs over the last 12-18 months including Newcastle from the Premier League, and even the likes of Napoli in Serie A.
“He’s a very creative player; puts lots of crosses into the box but is also quite big and strong defensively. According to Wyscout data he was won 60 per cent of defensive duels this season, makes an average of over four interceptions per game, and has four assists to his name across all competitions so far this season.
“Norwich have been tracking him since they were in the Premier League and seem to have got themselves a Premier League quality left-back ready for next season, should they win promotion. They’re on course, with a strong squad, and the deal is a shrewd one. If they go up they pay only £6.2m for a new left-back, but if they don’t the loan simply ends and he returns to PAOK. Clever.”
NORWICH SET TO SIGN LEFT-BACK GIANNOULIS
Norwich are set to sign Greece international left-back DimitrisGiannoulis from PAOK.
The 25-year-old is on the verge of completing an initial loan move until the end of the season.
A deal has been agreed with PAOK that includes an obligation to buy the player for around £6.2m if top-of-the-table Norwich are promoted.
Giannoulis, whom the club’s scouting department have tracked for some time, is in the country and has already passed a medical.
Sky Sports News reported in December that the Canaries were lining up left-back options amid doubts over the fitness of on-loan Villarreal left-back Xavi Quintilla.
However the Spaniard, who currently has Covid-19, is expected to remain with the club after recently returning to the bench following a hip problem.
